Jo Taylor Apricity Series 2016 Jo Taylor’s ceramic sculpture offers suggestions of organic growth, fragmentation, fragility, rigidity and fluidity. Inspired by decorative ornament such as plaster ceilings, carved stone and wrought iron, the works incorporate similar notions of depth, shadow and grandiose flourish. Using a combination of the potters wheel and making by hand, techniques are combined to create each unique piece. Apricity means “the warmth of the sun in winter” and these porcelain works were made during recent months in the winter light, especially for The Hospital Club window. Shadows within each piece alter with the changing aspects of daylight and during darkness. Works are two sided, presenting a completely opposing view from the inside of the building. Taylor’s practice is based in the West Country. After graduating with distinction from Bath Spa University’s Masters programme in 2012 she has exhibited extensively & been featured in publications internationally.
