Congratualtion to 2009 shortlisted Young Masters Art Prize artist, Maisie Broadhead, who has been selected for the Jerwood Makers Open 2013.
Maisie presents a series of re-workings of Renaissance painter Paolo Veronese’s series ‘Allegory of Love.’ Her work draws upon her own personal experience and the use of contemporary objects to interpret these four different facets: Scorn; Unfaithfulness; Respect and Happy Union. Drawing inspiration from Old Masters, (the very concept which drew her to the young masters initiative), Maisie adds a contemporary twist to her photographs with her intelligent rethinking of props, characters, clothing and environment to inject wit and humour into classic portraits.
The final completed commissions will be presented for the first time in an exhibition at JVA at Jerwood Space, London from the 10th July to the 25th August 2013, before touring the UK.
Congratulations Maisie! This is a fantastic achievement and we hope many of you will show your support and pay a visit to this wonderful exhibition!
